Final contributions have still been coming in, but as of today the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – Southern Maryland’s Walk on October 7th has collected $23,450.72 for the American Cancer Society’s fight against Breast Cancer.
Our Team – PAX River Navy Exchange reached it’s goal of $1,000. Kim and I appreciate all those who made donations and otherwise supported us.
What we originally thought was a 5K (3 mile) walk actually was a 4.4 mile walk through a lovely neighborhood in California, Maryland. We left the house by 6 AM and were in the parking lot by 7:30 AM – there isn’t much traffic that time of day on a Sunday! Registration began at 8 and the walk took off at 9 AM.
Bobby, his friend & Bobby’s son, Alex, were our walking companions. OK, Alex road on his Daddy’s shoulder some of the way, but we were very proud of the young man completing the walk! By mile #1 it was a misty rain, and by mile #2 the rain had become steady.
It was a heavy rain by mile #3, but as we approached the end, the rain had nearly stopped. We were soaked, but we completed the 4.4 miles in about 1-1/2 hours.
K-Czar & Zonya walked with us sporting their custom-made Pink Ribbon/Camo Neckerchiefs. Bre (in the middle) stayed home.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the disease impacts lives year-long. If you are a woman over 40, have an annual mammogram.

Congratulations on completing your walk- and on your fundraising efforts!

Thanks! Been walking most of the summer as my knee allowed, but my usual distance was no more than 2-1/2 miles. So I’m really pleased we got 4.4 miles in 1-1/2 hours!
