In 1991, the National Quilting Association proclaimed the third Saturday of March to be National Quilting Day. This was to be a day to celebrate the tradition of quilting and remembering the contributions quilters have made to their family and community.
At some point this one day of celebration unofficially expanded to an entire month. So March is often referred to as National Quilting Month.
For a number of years there has been a free pattern released to aid quilters in celebrating their skill and community. Some guilds set aside the third Saturday or some other time to have a Quilt-In which often supports a charity.
This year’s pattern is called “Stash Attack” by Evelyn Young of LeRoy, Illinois, and can be made from scraps in your stash. It is 60” x 70”. Directions using yardage are included as well as an option on how to make it in different sizes.
Celebrate National Quilting Day on Saturday, March 15th and do something Quilt-y!
