The 2021 Project Linus Mystery QAL Challenge fund raising contest winners will be announced next Saturday. There is still time to contribute. Each vote is a donation to Project Linus in support of their mission to provide comfort to children experiencing medical or emotional trauma (read about it here) . I’m sharing a bit about my progress making my Lucy’s Love Notes Quilt.
Clue #5 ‐ 4 Musical Notes – Another paper pieced block. Each clue is accompanied with a video which very helpful. I usually watch it once. Read the written directions and then watch it a second time. If I need more help, I actually have the video by my sewing machine and play a bit and stitch a bit and then play it again.
Clue #6 ‐ Lucy the Flamingo – This is all raw-edge applique. Applique always makes me think I’m back in school – drawing/tracing the shapes on fusible webbing, “gluing” it onto the fabric, cutting the shapes out and putting together the “puzzle” of all the pieces that make up the design.
Tip – When using Fusible Webbing for doing Raw Edge Applique, I usually trim the excess fusible before applying it to the back of the fabric so to eliminate bulk or extra stiffness.
So after six weeks, we had 4 Heart Units, 8 Envelope Units, 8 Sunrise/Sunset Blocks, 4 Flower Blocks, 4 Musical Notes & 1 Pink Flamingo. At this point we have most of the blocks, but the layout was still a mystery. That’s the end of the sixth week. The following Saturday we will got the final instructions to assemble the finished quilt top of the Project Linus 2020 Mystery QAL Challenge.
We didn’t get much snow, but there is more in the forecast so I see sewing in my future. Because of the weather this week, I had a Zoom Stitching afternoon with one of my Hand Stitching Group. It was fun to visit over Zoom while working on our individual projects and share our progress.
Happy Stitching!

That quilt is so adorable! When I read about it earlier, I’d assumed the center was a panel. I’m tickled to see it is constructed.
