Fat Quarter Shop’s Mystery Quilt Along is the first of the four projects I plan to work on this Fall that has already started. The steps are released on five Tuesdays beginning last week. You can join in if you’d like. The pattern is free and can be downloaded from Fat Quarter Shop’s website.
I couldn’t sleep Monday night and got up in the middle of the night and checked online. The pattern was available, but the video wasn’t. So I was able to print it and read it over. But I decided I wouldn’t get started until I viewed the tutorial. I did finally fall asleep.
When I got up, I fixed my morning Ginger and Green Tea and watched the video tutorial for Block #2 for All the Trimmings Week 2 and pulled out fabric needed for this step.
Following the cutting directions, I used a design board & Alphabitties to label/identify the cut pieces. Ready to start stitching. I forgot to get a picture of that step.
I finally remembered to take a picture of the first units all assembled and ironed. Ready to stitch together 4 blocks.
Have you ever had one of THOSE DAYS? Every step I did I made mistakes. Nothing major or insurmountable just irritating. First I cut directional fabric going the wrong way – twice! I ended up having to piece two strips in order to get it going the way I wanted it to go. Then I stitched a background square to a rectangle, but I actually stitched it to the stack of 4 rectangles! Out came my seam ripper. The background pieces are small, but I forgot to lower my stitch length to 1.8. UGH!
After assembling the blocks (and more pressing), I added the background sashing and assembled the row.
Well, I’m pleased! Week #2 row has been finished. I only hope I can keep up. Next week my Fall 2021 Current Projects #2 and #3 start. We don’t have the finishing directions for All the Trimmings, but here are the two rows so far.
Last night I did get some cutting done. Using Fabric Cafe’s City Lights pattern, I did the initial cutting using the Dinosaur, Red and Blue fabric. It’s now stashed in a plastic project box to be stitched later.
Monday’s activity was sandwiching a quilt top/batting/backing. The remaining of my week will be quilting this.
Today will be a day of quilting. I think I’ll start with some Stitch-in-the-Ditch.

Oh my you are a busy lady! I love that you found a solution for your “miss cut” and maybe those wrong direction pieces will end up in the border, get used as corner stones or become part of another quilt. I sometimes go over board cutting…and have lots of leftovers. I am using a pile of leftover HST for some charity quilting.
