Post Surgery Fabric Cafe Top – May 2026

In February I was able to finish 2 Tops for Fabric Cafe. Once the patterns are released I’ll post pictures.

Seven weeks Post Surgery and I started Physical Therapy. I heard from Fabric Cafe & they wondered if I was ready to get back to making tops. Since my goal was to see how I did rotary cutting I said yes to making one top.

1st Fabric Cafe Top Post Surgery

So on May 24th (9 weeks Post Surgery) I started just rotary cutting enough for Block A. It was a bit rough. So I decided to go slow and not do too much cutting all at once.

5 yards of fabric

This block required Strip Piecing and Chain Piecing. Ironing is getting better. Since the blocks are 12″ (finished) it came together quickly.

This pattern is for a 5-yard quilt and was designed by Donna Robertson.  Taking it slow and no sewing on Physical Therapy days I did get it done in one week. It really is a nice, quick pattern and I would think it could be made in a weekend.

I’m pleased with my progress and happy to be spending more time in my sewing room. I’m looking forward to getting a lot more accomplished this as I continue my recovery.

Hope you are making progress on whatever you are stitching this week!

Happy Stitching!

  1. I’m glad you can get back to doing some sewing. Putting thread into fabric therapy is good for your mental health!

Mental Health is an important part of recovery. While there are lots of things I still cannot do or need help doing there is a feel good satisfaction when in the sewing room even when taking longer than usual to do.
