In My Sewing Room This Weekend – 7/12/2026

This weekend I spent time in my sewing room making up for the lack of sewing room time this past week.

My Sewing Room

In 2024 we moved my Sewing Room into the basement. The room is in a “L” shape and I chose this alcove for my primary sewing space which includes my sewing table & ironing board. The cutting table is in the middle of the main area and bookshelves surround on all the walls.

Fabric Cafe Top

I’m glad to say I got the top I was testing for Fabric Cafe finished. This weekend I added one border and then I made the Economy Binding. It will ship via FedEx on Monday.

The Fabric Cafe patterns all use a single fold Economy Binding. The binding is cut in 1-1/4″ strips. Once stitched end-to-end I finished preparing it by first ironing it in half lengthwise.

Binding is ironed once in half

Then one edge is ironed in toward the middle fold. The raw edge will be stitched to the quilt top and the 1/4″ folded edge is ready to stitch to the back.

Pressing an Economy Binding

For the Fabric Cafe tops I make, the binding is wrapped onto a piece of cardboard and stored in a snack size zippy bag, labeled & ready for when the quilt has been quilted.

I’ve shared pictures from a previous post. If you would like to read more about making this single-fold Economy Binding, Click Here to see my post.

Once the top makes its way back to Texas, they will pick a backing for it and send it to a longarm quilter. Once it gets back it will be bound. When ready to release the pattern the quilt will show up on a YouTube video.  After that I’ll be able to share it.

I feel good about all that was accomplished these two days!

Hope you are making progress on whatever you are stitching this week!

Happy Stitching!
