The Week That Was – 9/18/2026

Have I mentioned my Sewing Room needs cleaning. It seems to continuously remain in that state. Just as soon as I feel it’s getting clean, I start digging through shelves and boxes to find something.

I’m not sure that it helps that I’m almost always working on multiple projects. This requires stacks of  fabrics to be available.  Currently, I have Fall Fabrics in one stack and Christmas Fabrics in another pile. Some novelty fabric is waiting for inspiration for possible Christmas presents. Not to mention there are some UFOs waiting for completion.

Piles for multiple projects! (Christmas, pillowcases? & Fall Fabrics)

Some say having multiple projects in different phases keeps a quilter from becoming bored. Maybe that’s true. But for me, I think it’s a matter of either needing an additional item, like needing to buy backing fabric, or hitting a road block and I don’t know what I need for the next Phase.

Projects have different phases- Inspiration, Design, Fabric Selection, and Ironing/Cutting/Stitching. This is followed by Finishing which includes Sandwiching, Quilting, Binding & Labeling.

Fall Project

The Fall Project I’m working on is moving along nicely.  It also helps that I have a deadline.

So the piles of Fall Fabric have a timeline. This fabric has to stay handy for a few more weeks and then it gets returned to the shelves.

Fall Fabrics

This is still mostly in the Iron/Cut/Stitch phase. But I’m sure it will move on to the next phase next week.

More Magic Bindings

The Road Map quilt is in the Finishing Phase as it needs binding and a label. First we needed to pick colors for the Main & the Accent binding. I didn’t have any more of the fabric used in the top and I feel the Backing is too busy for binding, so the decision was harder.

I’m a visual thinker and it’s difficult for me to imagine the result. Daughter played with editing the picture using different color combinations for the Magic Binding. Choices included Red with Yellow Accent, Red with Navy Accent, Navy with Red Accent, Navy with Yellow Accent and Green with Yellow Accent. Green with Red Accent was rejected as being a bit too much like Christmas colors.

So more fabric was pulled from the Stash for comparison.

UFOs Progress

A quick look at a few of my UFOs reveals several in different phases.

My Longarm Quilter contacted me that the three UFOs we took to her were finished. These are in the Finishing Phase. I got them trimmed and they will need binding and a label added.

Trimmings from 3 quilts

The leftover green fabric on the left from the Christmas Puppies quilt has been trimmed to use as the Main Fabric for the Magic Binding. I found some yellow for the Accent Fabric and got that cut..

Left – Christmas Puppies, Center – 1-2-3 Baby Quilt and Right – Christmas in July Bells

This Christmas in July Table Topper will be the first to bind. I want it finished before the holidays. I found the gold which is the one I used in the top. This will be the binding. I will use the leftover backing and make a Hanging Sleeve to add when I stitch the binding.

The 1-2-3 Baby quilt and a Christmas throw will have to wait until a few other projects get attention.  I’m looking for suitable binding fabric for the baby quilt.

A Short Road Trip

One of my quilty friends and I took a short Road Trip on Wednesday. A Not-Quite-Local Quilt Shop is closing and they are having a sale.

It’s sad to hear of a small business closing. In this case the owner passed away and her daughter tried keeping it going. But it just isn’t her passion so unless someone comes forward to buy it, this small town will lose their only quilt shop.

I did get some fabric –  some red & white flannel (maybe Christmas Stockings?), some Pillowcase fabric, two browns for my stash and  possible binding fabric.

Shopping – added 10.6 yards to my Stash

New Patterns and a Surprise by Fabric Cafe

While I was recovering from surgery my friends at Fabric Cafe have been busy.  In Tuesday’s YouTube video they introduced new individual 3 & 5-yard quilt patterns plus something different.

Individual patterns include 3-yard quilts – Cornerstone (47″ x 59″) and Manor House (42″ x 53″).  The 5-yard Quilt Patterns include –  Filigree (51″ x 70″) and a Fat Quarter Friendly quilt using 12 Fat Quarters plus two 1 yard cuts – Spinning Spools (58″ x 67″).

Plus Fran and Donna introduced the Studio Collection- two new full color books with 5 Table Runners and 4 Tree Cozies.

Fran and Donna share all these and more in their YouTube video which was released on Tuesday.

Just a note: I am just someone who loves Fabric Cafe’s 3 & 5-yard quilt patterns & enjoy working for them testing their well written patterns. The opinions expressed here are mine and I do not receive compensation for my reviews or posts.

Hope you are making progress on whatever you are stitching this week!

Happy Stitching!

  1. You’ve been busy organizing! Love those fabrics for fall. I’m so glad you have the bells topper up for binding first.
