Quilters Quest 2011

It’s over for another year! The 2011 Quilters Quest is now completed. This year 10 Quilt Shops in Maryland & Virginia opened their doors to Questers from November 9 through 13th. Questers got to visit the stores, enjoy refreshments, pick up a block pattern for the Quester’s Quilt designed by Jinny Beyer, and of course, buy some fabric!

Each shop used the same 10 block patterns to make their own versions of the Quest Quilt. Oh! They were so beautiful.

Tonight we rest and then we have to go through all the pictures Mel took. I will try to post more by the end of the week.

Not Exactly Quilting

Taking a break from Quilting this week, I was helping our daughter prepare for the 2011 USRC Schutzhund Nationals which is being put on by the Old Dominion Rottweiler Klub. She is a member of the ODRK and is the Show Secretary.

Tracking is one of the categories. She asked me to make Flags to be used. We discussed what was needed and chose to make a Commemorative Flag that the Participants would be able to take home with them. She provided me with the logo for the show:

We designed the flag to be approximately 4” x 6” and created it to have a slot to insert the dowel rod. So we made the flags using some fabric from my stash, some dowel rods, Printed Treasures, and Steam-A-Seam2-Lite. I printed the Logo on Printed Treasures which is a sew-on printable fabric sheet which can be printed on with an ink-jet printer. Using Steam-A-Seam2-Lite, I attached the logo to one side of the flag. On the other side, I cut out the numbers 1-8 and attached them using Steam-A-Seam2-Lite.

Trick or Treat – 2011

Of course when heading out to Trick or Treat, a properly equipped Pooh Bear requires a goodie bag. And Grandmother had just the right Fat Quarter in her Stash to make Grandson Aiden his bag. Not too scary for a 17-month old.

Rather than sending some Candy, I figured something to play with would be better. A simple pre-quilted panel with a “city-road map” just needed some binding and a label. A perfect play mat!

And, of course, a couple of Fisher Price Wheelie vehicles to drive down the road!

Yellow-Eyed Peas

You read it right – Yellow-Eyed Peas, not Black-eyed Peas. Have you ever heard of them?

They are a bit larger than Black-eyed Peas.

A number of years ago a relative asked us if we would get her some, and so began the search. Finally, on a trip through the Blue Ridge, near Hillsville, VA, we found them!

So, dinner last night was a slow-pot full of Yellow-eyed Peas with Ham…

And, some Sweet Cornbread made in a Cast Iron Skillet…

Finish up some left over white rice and throw in some Strawberry Jam…

YUMMMMMM!

Purple Panda Quilts: Spread the word!

Quilters are a very Giving Group of people. The Purple Panda Blogger has issued a call out for home-made Christmas Stockings. She has a goal of 50 stockings, to be mailed to her by December 1st.

Purple Panda writes:

When I’m not busy quilting, I work with foster kids. I love it – they are always so happy and make me appreciate the things I have in life. Anyway this year for the holidays the agency I work with would really like to give each child a handmade stocking – a nice one that they can keep and reuse for years to come that we would then fill with all sorts of goodies.
