It is a contest, but it is also a fund raiser for a great charity. In the Fall, for the past 4 years, I’ve participated in the Project Linus Mystery Quilt Challenge. For a donation of $15 I received clues to create a quilt. Then in February of the following year there is a Contest and 30 of the quilts made are chosen to receive votes. This is the first time I have submitted my quilt to the contest. There are prizes for the quilts that receive the most votes.

Each year the quilt pattern has been named for a grandchild of the quilt’s designer. This year it was named for her teenage grandson, Logan.

Let me give you some background. Project Linus is a national charity in the USA (although, I understand, there are similar groups in other countries). There are local chapters in all 50 states. The goal of Project Linus is “Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”” Quilts are also welcomed.

So back to the contest, and my quilt. On Friday I received an email notifying me that my quilt had been selected to be one of 30 quilts to be included in the contest. Voting starts February 1 and concludes on February 14th. Since this is a fund-raiser, each vote costs $1, but there is a minimum of $10 (so 10 votes).

Of course, I would love any votes I receive-My quilt is #11, Hint, Hint. The funds raised go to help the local chapters provide necessary materials to create “hugs” for children (infants up through teenagers). Last year the contest raised over $11,000 for this worthy cause. While you are on their site you read more about it and maybe check to see if there is a local chapter near you. This is a great service opportunity. The local chapters would also appreciate donations of fabric, batting, or yarn, as well as cash donations. All blankets/afghans/quilts remain in your local area giving hugs to children experiencing medical or emotional traumatic experiences.
