This and That Saturday

Here comes the Fall Swing! On Wednesday we had a high of 90° and Sunday the low may be in the 30°s. Friday we were under a thunderstorm watch/warning for the evening, but the day was mostly sunny & comfortable.

In the evening, after less than an hour of heavy rain and wind, a cold front came through and temperatures started dropping from to 80°s earlier in the day to the low 60°s.

Following Fall Fortnight

Yesterday Carole posted Block #2 and finishing instructions for her 2026 Fall Fortnight Quilt Along. I’ve downloaded everything but beginning it will have to wait until some priority projects are completed.

The Blog Hop on Wednesday was fun. I want to say Welcome! to all who visited. The other Bloggers had so many fun and cute placemat patterns. If you missed it, click on the above link to see my placemat pattern and then visit the others to check out their patterns.

A reminder: If you are planning to make & send a placemat or two to help Carole share with her local Meals on Wheels, you must get them in the mail by October 30th. You can find her address on her Blog Hop Post.

Placemats I’m sending

I’m looking forward to what she will be sharing next week.

In the Kitchen

The cooler weather got me thinking SOUP! On Friday I pulled out my 6-quart Crockpot and made Vegetable Soup with Cabbage. I used 4 cups of homemade chicken stock I had in the freezer.

Homemade Chicken Stock

This really isn’t a recipe because I use whatever I have. Opening the refrigerator, I pulled out any vegetables I had – carrots,  celery, onions, bell peppers, zucchini and a leftover half head of cabbage. I added a can of Rotel Tomatoes (that’s basically diced tomatoes and peppers which add a bit of heat) but this is optional. Sometimes I will add a can of diced tomatoes. For a bit of protein I added a can of Cannellini Beans that I rinse before adding. I add seasoning like salt, pepper, Italian Seasoning, Basil and garlic.

After cooking 5 hours on low I filled pint canning jars and will put some in the freezer. When I’m in the mood for soup I’ll defrost a jar and maybe add some more stock, some pasta or potatoes, brown some ground beef or sausage and heat up.

A cast iron skillet of Cornbread and we’ll have a quick meal for a chilly day.

Today I’m thinking I’ll make some spaghetti sauce to freeze.

Does Fall make you think of cooking anything special?

Hope you are making progress on whatever you are stitching this week!

Happy Stitching!
