Well, I can’t say the month progressed as planned, but I did keep busy. Plus, after all February is a short month.

I am participating in the APQ’s UFO Challenge and Elm Street Quilt’s OMG. Hopefully I will also work some to finish up my Fall 2021 Current Projects (which are now my 2022 WIPs).

(Quilting Acronyms – UFO stands for UnFinished Object, OMG means One Monthly Goal, QAL means Quilt Along and WIP means Work in Progress.)

American Patchwork & Quilting’s UFO Challenge. Participants create a list of 12 (or more) unfinished projects that we hoped to work on or complete this year. The first of the month a random number is announced and that is the project to work on.

My February UFO #7 – Actually there are four

The UFO number for February is #7 and three were small projects. The month started out with great plans to get 4 UFOs out of the way. It wasn’t going to happen.

I have many more UFOs than I have on my list. Among the many unfinished here were two quilts I intended to donate to Quilts of Valor.

In January I had reached out to find a local longarm quilter to work on any Quilt of Valor Quilts I make but hadn’t heard back from anyone. Then the first week of February I received an email. Several emails later we made arrangements to meet on the 11th.

The first quilt only needed a label added and the binding attached. So, I got busy and finished it, plus made a Presentation Case (Pillowcase to store the quilt in).

This was made from a 5-yard Bundle from Fabric Cafe using one of the 5-yard Patterns – Block Party. I don’t remember when I pieced the top, but I finally got it quilted in 2021

The second Quilt of Valor Quilt was only a flimsy (pieced top only) and still needed a backing pieced, quilting, label and binding. Last year I bought a bolt of fabric on sale for backing. So, a quick measurement and piecing and the backing was ready.

This was the Mystery Quilt of Valor that was made in 2021. I was able to assemble it at a quilt retreat (love the Long Tables!) but it had been waiting for the next steps.

This was a big finish for me! First, I was actually able to finish a Mystery Quilt the same year — OK, I’ll admit it. I’m bad about starting, but not finishing – the reason I have so many UFOs!! Second, this was the first quilt I’ve made with the “rows” stitched on the diagonal. I know, that’s not really tough to do, but I was intimidated by the process.

My 4 February UFOs were not touched, but I’m so please that these two Quilt of Valor Quilts are finished and on their way! I will count this as a finish for my February UFO.

My February OMG – North to Alaska/Block #2

For my 2022 One Monthly Goal I am working on “Holiday” version of the North to Alaska pattern by Edyta of Laundry Basket Quilts. I’m late to the Quilt Along as The Featherweight Shop did Block #9 in January. If time permits, I may do more than one block each month to try to catch up.

My February Goals – WIP

I have so many things partially done, Here’s a list of a few of them to help me keep on track. Most have rolled over from the Fall and even earlier.

• In Progress – Hand Piece Quilt Along 2021 – Need to find fabric for 2nd border – Found some green fabric, just not sure I like it.
• No Progress – Snowmen & Silent Night – Make additional blocks to enlarge
• No Progress – All the Trimmings – Add a row of Presents, & Borders
• No Progress – Project Linus 2021/Oliver is in the Doghouse – Additional Blocks, Assemble Rows, Sashing & Borders
• No Progress – Autumn Jubilee 2021 – Add pieced border and maybe one more solid
• Make tops for Fabric Cafe: I got a call to make two tops for Fabric Cafe’s new book, due out in the Spring. Since these are new patterns there was a bit of tweaking. No pictures yet. Once the book is released, I’ll share what I made.
• Backings or Bindings, as needed (either to cut/piece or buy) I found a box with partially finished tops and another with several bundles of yardage which will make great backing.

My Sewing Room has really been busy in February. I also did more cleaning and going through boxes. There is a lot for me to do still.
