While I hadn’t been posting since early last year, I have been busy and I thought I’d browse my photos & write about some of what I’d been doing.

I’m afraid to count how many UFOs I have, but any time I do any cleaning/organizing in my sewing room I always say I’ll work on some of them

Quilt of Valor UFO

If you have been following me, you may remember that I follow Alycia’s Blog . She often offers a quilt along with a Quilt of Valor pattern. Sometimes it is a mystery & other times we may know what the finished top will look like.

In the Fall of 2022 (yes, you read that right – 2022!), I started her pattern Long May She Wave. If you are interested in making this quilt, the pattern is avaliable on her Etsy Shop – Long May She Wave A Patriotic Quilt ‘

A Lot of Flying Geese!

I won’t count the number of Flying Geese but it was ALOT.  I wish I had used the no waste, 4-at-a-time method to make them.

I used special rulers and cut the pieces as the clues were released.  As I had time I would piece them and then assemble the Stars.

During 2023 I continued making Flying Geese and Stars but took breaks to work on Fabric Cafe tops or presents for birthdays and Christmas.

I guess you can say I was overwhelmed by all the Flying Geese  and unfortunately this quilt ended up in a box. Finally in 2025 I found the box and finished the Stars.

The Top Gets Finished

In January this year I was determined to finally get this finished. As I had time, I assembled the rows.

And when the rows were completed, they were all sewn together.

In February,  A Blogger Friend, Carole, shared in her Blog, From My Carolina Home, that there was to be a Quilt of Valor Quilt presentation this year, but weren’t sure they would have enough Quilts. She requested donations of Star Blocks from her readers as she hoped to make more quilts.  My top only needed the borders & I asked her if she could use a completed top.

So, my QOV top now had a recipient.  I added the borders and mailed it off. Carole had some donated batting & backing and quilted it on her longarm. You can see a picture of it on her blog post here.

This month my QOV quilt was presented to Edward R, US Marine Corps Master Sergeant, third from the left.

A Finish & a Veteran Honored

It feels good to have a UFO completed. But more importantly I am pleased to be a part of honoring the service of a veteran. Thank you for your service, Edward R, US Marine Corps Master Sergeant. And thank you to Carole and her group for honoring these servicemen with this presentation & reception.
