The Week That Was – 9/4/2026

September 1st is often referred to as the beginning of Meteorological Fall. Each season has 3 months and Fall is September/ October/ November. Unfortunately the thermometer doesn’t agree. Temperatures were in the mid-to-high 90°’s with equally high humidity.

We didn’t have any appointments so this was mostly a stay-at-home week. YAY!

We did have one day with a road trip.

Road Trip

On Tuesday we took a road trip to pickup the two quilts from my longarm quilter and take three more for her to quilt.

I didn’t take any pictures on the drive but this picture is from September 25, 2022 on the similar trip.

Heading to the Blue Ridge

It was a nice trip over the mountains and down the valley. Well, that is until the last 15 miles coming home which took over an hour! Mostly it was just rush hour traffic!

Quilt #1 – The quilting on the Woodland Friends II quilt for my great grand nephew includes some cute animals.

Quilt #2 – The Road Map quilt has cars in the quilting. It is waiting trimming & binding. Maybe this weekend.

In the Kitchen

I’ve returned to making bread 2 times this week. Wednesday I got the ingredients in the bread machine which mixed/kneaded and did the first rise while I was out at bus duty in the morning. When I returned I  cleaned the kitchen before I had to shape & proof the loaf.

I like making my own bread. I know the simple ingredients in it and feel it’s a bit healthier.  I reduce the salt and sugar in it and add buttermilk (I use powdered Buttermilk). I reduce the water and add an egg (for added protein). I use half White Whole Wheat flour which results in a softer crumb.

I make a 1-1/2 pound loaf that lasts us 3-4 days. I use an electric knife to cut the slices and wrap it in a cloth and store in a bread box.

The only “Unhealthy” part is that it’s so good I want to eat lots of it!

In the Sewing Room

Magic Binding was on the agenda. This process adds a bit of “bling” to the edge of the quilt and can easily be machine stitched on the front.

A number of years ago I did a couple of posts about binding. You can read Binding – Love it or Hate It – Part 1 here.

And you can read Binding – Love it or Hate it – Part 2 here. This post includes a link to Magic Binding tutorial.

I’ve started making the Magic Binding for the Woodland Friends II quilt. Magic Binding requires two strips of fabric. The Brown is the main color and the Yellow is the accent color.

I’ll share some thoughts on the Magic Binding in my next post.

Hope you are making progress on whatever you are stitching this week!

Happy Stitching!

  1. That traffic looks awful!! So glad I moved out of the big city 23 years ago!! I love living in a small rural town. Your bread looks divine. I’m baking today, pumpkin bread and an apple dessert to test for the fair.
