2010 Blizzard – Part 2

It has been decided by whatever Powers-that-Be, that because we did not have a chance to get dug out of the 02/04-05/2010 Blizzard before the 02/09-10/2010 Blizzard began, the two storms will be some-what counted as one Emergency Event.
 
Part 2 started here about 4 PM yesterday with somewhat light snow flurries.  By 8 PM is was sticking well, making it slippery on the roads and difficult to see the street markings.  By 11:30 PM M had to shovel off the Ramp which had about 2" of snow covering it.  When I checked at 2 AM, there as a 1/2" or so of sleet/freezing rain which the storm door moved.
 
This morning it had changed to snow and there was another 2 or 3 inches to be shoveled from the Ramp.  About 10 AM the heavy activity had begun – snow falling 2-4" per hour, winds blowing 20 mph & gusting up to 50-60 mph and white-out conditions (you could not see the end of the street which is 3 houses away!).
 
I had leveled off the snow at my yardstick down to about 15 inches, and with the falling & drifting snow it is up to about 24 inches.  K & M have shoveled off the ramp 3-4 times – so calculating 2-3 inches on the ramp each time it is shoveled, the ‘new’ snow event totals range between 6-12 inches.
 

So far so good with our power.  I’m making slow pot soup & will start the oven shortly and make some muffins, cornbread & maybe even some brownies.  Stay warm & Dry!

2010 Feb Blizzard

Day 2 of Blizzard 2 of the 2009-2010 Winter Season.  It has now been snowing for over 20 hours and promises to continue snowing until early evening.
 
Wind has been blowing, causing drifting and it is somewhat difficult to determine exactly how much snow we’ve received.  Best Guess, as of 8 AM –  About 20 inches.
 
 
The heaviest Snow Fall happened overnight.  As of 7:30 PM last night we had maybe 4-5".  The by 1 AM this morning it had reached over 12".  During the night, M & K shoveled the Ramp/Sidewalk and knocked the accumulation off the canopy covering the deck.  As of 8 AM this morning, including the drifts, the front porch shows about 22-23"
 
The snow, including amounts shoveled now just about cover the railings on the Ramp!
 
 
Mail Service has been suspended for the day.  I told the mail carrier yesterday that she did not have to deliver any mail to us on Saturday – there is nothing in the mail worth her drudging through the snow!

2010 Feb Blizzard

The 2nd Significant – Dangerous – Historic Snow Event of the Season has Begun!  It is projected to snow for the next 24-36 hours – at times it is expected to fall @ 2-3"/hour.
 
12:00 Noon – Light/fine Snow is beginning to fall
 
 
02:00 PM – It is suppose to "lightly snow" until evening and then Heavy followed by Very Heavy overnight Snowfall
 
TV Weatherman says to expect:  3 pm – 2", 7 pm – 4", 11 pm – 8", 3 am – 17, 7 am – 22 & 11 am – 24 with snow continuing throughout Saturday.
 

 03:00 PM – Snow is coming down heavier – large flakes.  It is sticking on the ramp & beginning to cover the cars, but the warm days we’ve had recently is keeping the sidewalk & street wet.  But Temps are beginning to fall so it should start sticking soon.
 
04:00 PM – Well, it is now beginning to STICK!  Nice covering on Ramp, Sidewalk & Street.  Guess we’ll be up throughout the night opening the front storm door to keep the snow from piling up and blocking it!
 
 
 
Only about an inch so far — weatherman is saying we are 18" short of matching the year record high snow for one season and about 27" short of exceeding the all time highest snow fall in one season.
 

 OK – settling in for the night and we’ll see what comes of it!  Everyone stay warm & dry!!

How Big is Too Small?

Many moons ago (maybe a lifetime ago), when the kitchen was remodeled & the dishwasher was added, the kitchen sink had to be moved into a corner.  Cute, you say?  Not bad, you say??  Well the ingenious cabinet installer, apparently never intended a plumber or anyone larger than our Pomeranians to ‘crawl’ under the sink to make any repairs!  You see the cabinet door is about 12" wide.
 

 
Well, now we have a leak.  Not bad – yet; but still it will need attention.  M is very good at ‘do-it-yourself’ projects such as this, but let’s admit it — he’s not 12" wide!  Can you envision M, on his side, reaching thru the ‘spacious’ under-the-sink cabinet door and messing with drain pipes & such??
 
K cleared out all the stuff that was under the sink – you know the extra flower vaces, the sponges, cleaning supplies, and all the other things that find themselves stored under the sink.  I sponged/washed the cabinet floor – which is actually the tile from the OLD kitchen floor, and placed a pan under the offending pipes.  Diagnosis:  Drain pipe connections aren’t sealed anymore.
 
M’s teaching a class in Baltimore Wed-Thurs, so this will be on his Saturday Honey-Do List!  Until then, minimal use of the kitchen sink!

Happy New Year, 2010!

Well, it is here!  Finally!  The Year 2010!  Was it just yesterday, we were preparing for Y2K??  The 21st Century is already 1/10th gone!
 
Breakfast was Orange-Cinnamon Rolls & Bacon.  Dinner will be Pork Roast, Black-eyed Peas, & Rice. Spending the morning watching Behind the Scenes at the Tournament of Roses Parade & will watch the Parade.  Then the TV will probably be on Football the rest of the Day!
