Happy New Year, 2010!

Well, it is here! Finally! The Year 2010! Was it just yesterday, we were preparing for Y2K?? The 21st Century is already 1/10th gone!

Breakfast was Orange-Cinnamon Rolls & Bacon. Dinner will be Pork Roast, Black-eyed Peas, & Rice. Spending the morning watching Behind the Scenes at the Tournament of Roses Parade & will watch the Parade. Then the TV will probably be on Football the rest of the Day!

Merry Christmas! 2009

Thanks to the Significant Snow Event of 2009, we are having a White Christmas! Due to the excitement we had at the first of the week, we’re just having a quiet Christmas Day.

Weather has been overcast most of the day – the expected rain hasn’t reached us yet. It is still to the west & south of us. We watched the Yule Log on TV this morning, enjoying the Christmas Music.

M & B spent Christmas Eve working on a project together which has continued into today, with bits & pieces of it spread all over the living room. I kept the house warm yesterday cooking: Cranberry-Pumpkin Bread (2 loaves), Carrot-Banana Bread, Gingerbread, Busy Day Brownies & White Rice Yeast Bread. This morning I added another batch of Busy Day Brownies & Gingerbread Muffins to go with breakfast.

We’ve talked with family on the phone or Internet, wishing them all a Merry Christmas & a warm & safe day.

Our Christmas Pompas Grass – Rudolph must of needed his shinning nose, the fog is rolling in, but no rain yet. These pictures were taken at 3:45 in the afternoon. You can see that we still have a considerable amount of snow left over from the Significant Snow Event of 2009 from (can you believe it) a week ago!

Significant Snow Event – 2009

According to one of the weathermen on TV, the definition of a White Christmas is that there is a minimum of 1-inch of snow on the ground. So, unless we have a MAJOR Heat Wave, we are having a White Christmas this year!

Well, the Morning After the Big Significant Snow Event of 2009 – they are actually calling it the December Blizzard of 2009 – started with Bright Sunshine! Temps are still cold – at noon, it is about 33 on the deck, and don’t think it is going to warm up much. But with the shoveling we’ve done and the sunshining, there is a bit of clearing going on.

We will need some serious warm weather to melt this accumulation. The weather people don’t want to talk about it, but it looks like we will get some precip for Christmas Eve & Christmas Day — they won’t commit to what kind or how much.

Significant Snow Event – 2009

One of the news anchors today said that there isn’t much difference between one foot and two feet of snow — Deep snow is just that, Deep!

So that’s what we got — Deep Snow! Almost 20 inches on the porch. We keep opening the front door to keep it from freezing shut and M & K have shoveled, broomed, scraped and REPEAT! The weatherman on channel 9 (USA-TV/CBS) just did his mathematics — although it varies between wet vs dry snow – here is the weight that has been/is being shoveled: 1 Square Foot = .5 pounds, a ‘typical’ driveway = 45′ x 10′ with 2" of snow = moving 468 pounds, Times 10 if snow is 20" = 4,680 pounds – Over 2 TONS! So, this is a good reason to do a little, rest a little – no reason to overdo!

Significant Snow Event – 2009

And it continues – hard to tell how much we’ve gotten so far because the wind has started blowing it around. M cleared the ramp and we now have another inch or two on the ramp.

They tell us that this storm is coming in waves — it snows light for a while, and then heavy. It is snowing heavy now, and visibility is like it is foggy. Guess M needs to get out & shovel some more.
