Catch-up

Friday –
 
Today is actually a very nice day – no rain, cool breeze, & sunny.  Activity here is quiet for a change – Nice!
 
So to Catch up on this week:
 
Sunday – Housework and B came home from his visit with B
Monday – M flew out to LA to be with his sister and mother who is having surgery; took KC to Vet – he wasn’t thrilled with the swelling in KC’s eye, so added an anti-inflamitory med and continued the antibiotics – did not remove the stitches
Tuesday – M’s mother came thru Surgery ok and is in ICU
Wednesday – I worked Preschool, ran some errands and got caught in traffic caused by Pres. O going to Annandale for a "Town Meeting" on Healthcare
Thursday – Not a bad day – Ran to Joann’s for some funny thread to mend a soft dog crate for K and went to my Thursday Quilt Group (we call this our Therapy!)
 
Today:  Took KC to Vet – Eye looks better, but stitches staying in until next Wednesday, Meds will continue at least 2 more weeks.  There is a M*A*S*H marathon today which I have been watching between napping and working in sewing room.  M & his sister finally talked with a Dr about their Mom – she’s still in ICU until (1) pain meds can be reduced and BP not go up; and (2) IV can be removed and she starts taking liquids without negative results.  They have determined that it is Lymphoma Cancer which had spread to the Colon and not Colon Cancer which the Dr seems pleased about.  It has not been staged and there has not been any discussions about treatment plans.  She’s getting hungry and grumpy, so guess she’s getting better. Sick
 
Looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Projects #3 & 5 – Continued

We haven’t gotten as much done on our projects this week.  Mon & Wed had RoadTrips & since Wed night, KC has required extra attention.  So today Projects were on the agenda.
 
Project #3 – K’s Car’s Platform:  It has been cut, stained & Poly Coated.  Today was assembly, glue and ‘install.’  Now K has to figure out how everything fits together.
 

 
Project #5 – Ramp:  Plans were to replace, but (1) we’ve ran out of time, as B comes home tomorrow and he needs the ramp to get into the house; and (2) basically it is not in bad shape.  The foundation still looks in good shape.  The three items that need immediate attention (a) the railings are split and wobble a bit, (b) the end of the ramp was made of plywood and it has split and won’t stay in position, and (c) many slats have nails sticking up and just hammering them in place is no longer working.
 
So, today M removed the railings & the plywood end.  We talked about options, and decided to replace the end of the ramp with a concrete piece and continue onto the sidewalk with a topping treatment like he used on the sidewalk to the driveway.
 
 
This is step #1 – A layer of concrete.  We need to let this set/dry before adding the topcoat.  Looking good!
 
He has the Railing’s cut, but they are square and need the edges smoothed and then stain/finish them with a poly coat.  Not going to happen tonight.  Later the slats will need attention, but not this weekend.
 
KC Update:  He’s improving.  He’s eating well, and moving better.  He’s back to barking at the mailman and trying to scratch the Eliz. Collar.  We have an appointment on Monday evening with the Vet for follow-up and stitch removal.

Back-Tracking

Now that things have gotten quieter around here, I’ll post what I *was* going to post Wednesday.
 

 
K’s new car needed a bit of work done at the Dealer in Williamsburg, so we had a road-trip. K, Tay, me and Bre headed south about 6 am on Wednesday.  She had a check list for the Service Department and I had a Quilt Shop List I pulled from the Internet — Note: Williamsburg & Newport News do not have an abundance of Quilt Shops.
 
We got down there about 9 am and the Dealer gave us a loaner.  We checked in and transferred the two dogs & other essentials to the loaner and headed out with our GPS set for the first quilt shop.  The A/C wasn’t working in the loaner but we continued.  We arrived at the Quilt Shop a little before 10 and sat waiting for them to open.  A lady came to the door and invited us in. 
 
The dogs did well.  This was only the 3rd time Bre had been in a store and the first time both dogs had ‘shopped’ with another dog.  We shopped and visited with some quilters setting up for a class. 
 
Out to the car — and when we got in the Driver’s Window dropped back into the door.  So back to the Dealer for another loaner.  This time we got a Park Avenue and the A/C worked.  Punched in the address for Quilt Shop #2 and off we went.
 
We did not get back on the highway, instead we programed the GPS to avoid highways — Better Shopping!  On the way we had a ‘road-block.’  It took a while, but we finally saw what the delay was — there was a Train Station crossing the road.  Yup, you read right, there was a two-story train station being moved from one side of the road to the other.  It moved slowly and there was a man standing on the roof holding onto the chimney.  Finally, it cleared the roadway and we were directed to pass.  Not something you see everyday!
 
The next Quilt Store was in Newport News and was nice.  K stayed in the car with the 4-leggeds and I went in.  They were nice, had a very good selection.  I bought four – 1/2 yard cuts of Civil War Reproduction fabric.  They offered a 10% discount to Guild Members and even tho I was not from a local guild, they gave me the discount.
 
As we headed back North/West and stopped at a couple of automotive shops.  K was looking for a locking gas cap for her new car.  We programed in the next stop, and headed out on the highway.  Just as we passed the exit for the Dealership, we got a call saying her car was ready.  We did a flip-flop at the next exit and picked up her car.  She was pleased with the work that was done.  We transferred the dogs and belongings to her car, said our good-byes and headed out.
 
The final shop was no longer, so we got gas and headed home.  We stopped at her house to check the mail and got KFC for dinner (since it was about 6 pm).  We got home a bit before 7:30 pm, and as we were unloading the car, that was when Falkor & K.C. had their disagreement.  But that’s another post.

Road Trip – PA

Beautiful Day!  Warm with Breezies, Blue Skies, Some overcast, quick moving clouds.
 
We got up early and headed North-East to Hinckletown, PA.  My sewing machine is nearly 2 years old and they offered two years free service, so before heading to Quilt Camp we wanted it serviced.  Though I do some basic maintenance – blow out/dust, oil, etc; but it is a ‘computer’ so any updates to the software, I cannot do.  We’ve been wanting to do a road-trip, but with all the rain, it kept getting postponed.
 
So, weather seemed to be agreeable, and we left the house at 7:20 am.  We made it to Hinckletown at about 10 am.  We told them we were heading to do some shopping, but would like it by early afternoon.  We then headed to Weaver’s Dry Goods – a converted house in the middle of a corn field full of fabric!  While there we got a call that the sewing machine was finished.  WoW!  They were fast!
 
So after paying for a few yards of remnants, we headed back.  After picking up the machine — and of course buying some thread — we headed to Intercourse (yes, that is a town’s name!) and Bird-in-Hand.  More shopping!  We stopped and got lunch and headed toward York, PA.  It was a long day, but a nice outing.

Father’s Day – 2009

The day started with a small rain shower, but then turned out pretty nice — Low humidity, mostly Sunny with some occasional clouds.
 
Bre & I walked 1 mile this morning — the dogs all wanted to get up early.  S called to wish his father Happy Father’s Day and they had a nice talk.  M worked on some computer programs and some out on the back porch.  K came over for Grilled Hambergers & Homemade Strawberry Freezer Pie (super simple and yummie!).
