The Week That Was  – 9/11/2026

The Week Began with Labor Day

In the U.S. and Canada, the first Monday of September is a Federal holiday honoring workers & labor unions. Other countries celebrate workers & unions on May 1st.

It also is the unofficial end of summer with schools back in session and hints of cooler weather to come.

We had a “Cook-in” rather than a Cookout. We cooked hamburgers in the oven and made several salads – Macaroni Salad, Coleslaw & Fruit Salad with jello & cottage cheese plus corn on the cob & baked beans.

Everything was soooo good!

Can Soup Season be far behind?

In the Sewing Room

I hand stitched the label and finished the baby quilt.

After trimming/squaring the Road Map quilt all that was needed was binding and a label. The backing fabric is too busy to use and I didn’t have (or couldn’t find) the leftover fabric from the front. This resulted in digging through my stash for 2 colors to make another Magic Binding.

I needed to work some more on a Fall project, so more playing with my Fall Fabrics.

In the Garden

We checked on the mystery plant and the vegetables (?) are both orange. The skin is smooth and doesn’t have vertical ridges like some pumpkins. But I don’t remember if pie pumpkins have ridges. AI identified the plant as a Round Zucchini. I still have no idea.

Round Zucchini or Pumpkin?

Would an over-ripe Round Zucchini be orange?

The Week Ended with a Solemn Anniversary

Friday, September 11th was the 25th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on American soil. Like other eventful  times in history most adults can remember where they were when they heard what happened. I was driving to work and was about 6 miles from the Pentagon.

May we never forget

Remembering those who lost their lives, the First Responders & volunteers who worked for hours/weeks following and all whose lives have been forever changed by that terrible day.
