Post Thanksgiving 2018

Happy Day After Thanksgiving, to all my Family & Friends!

Not going to share any food pictures. But I will say the creative cooking was a success – 9.65 lb Turkey in my Slow Pot, Pressure Pot making Hard Boiled Eggs & Sweet Potatoes for Marshmallow topped whipped Sweet Potatoes (with a secret ingredient), Sausage Cornbread Dressing (or is it Stuffing only if it’s cooked in a turkey?), and basic Green Bean Casserole all cooked in my Microwave/Convection Oven. Store-bought Sweet Potato Pie & Apple Crumb Pie completed our feast.

2018 Thanksgiving Prep

This Thursday is Thanksgiving in the United States. Since 1864, when President Abraham Lincoln declared the 4th Thursday of November as a day of “Thanksgiving & Praise,” it has been a national holiday.  Originally celebrated as a harvest festival, it was actually celebrated nationally off and on since 1789 with a Proclamation from President George Washington. For us, it is a quiet day with family and a meal of Turkey and all the trimmings. I always like to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and, of course, DH likes watching the football games.

Sharing Opportunities to Help

I follow a number of Quilting Blogs and Facebook Pages.  This past week I saw several that I’d like to share with you.

First: Carole writes her blog – From My Carolina Home.  From her blog title you might guess she lives in one of the Carolinas. She has organized and connected with groups that are providing quilts to families that have lost everything in Hurricanes Florence & Michael in North Carolina. Read about her Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project and see what is needed and where to send blocks, tops and/or completed quilts, if you would like to help.

Week Ending 11/17/2018

I got back from my week in the mountains just in time.  An early November Nor’Easter hit leaving snow, sleet, ice and loss of power along the Atlantic states.  I spoke with Spirit Wind Ministry Center and they were without power Thursday thru Friday, and my friend who organized the Retreat is STILL without power. At home, we had about an inch or so of snow along with the rain/sleet/freezing rain mix.

Fall 2018 Quilt Retreat – Final Day

Another cold, but sunny day. While it will be good to get home, it was a bit sad to say good-bye to our quilty friends.  After a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs w/sausage, hash brown potato casserole & blueberry pancakes with cut up fresh fruit, a bit more of sewing got accomplished.

Quilt Retreat Fall 2018 – Staging area for loading the cars for the trip home.

Those with a long trip home, left after lunch. Four ladies in a BIG truck, loaded with sewing machines and supplies headed out after lots of hugs.

Quilt Retreat Fall 2018 – Loading 4 ladies’ sewing & suitcases for the trip home.

Several local ladies remained to do hand work and visit until the retreat was officially over by 4 p.m.  The room looked so empty! Camelia and I were the last ones and we did a little computer work.

Quilt Retreat Fall 2018 – Uploading pictures to the web site

I’m heading home today because it is a long drive and I didn’t want to leave early.  So in the evening, I got to have dinner with my Son and his family – Yoo Hooo!!

You may not hear from me for a couple of days while I rest and get my sewing space put back together.  Plus I will be resuming my PT.

Happy Stitching  & Moving!
