This has been a funny winter. Record breaking Cold Temperatures and frequent snow/ice events. No, we haven’t had a real blizzard, just a lot of snow days.
And we’re not alone. Snow and cold temps have made it down to the deep south. There have been colder temperatures throughout the 48-contiguous states than it was in Alaska. Tonight the news said that it was warmer at the Winter Olympics in Russia than in most of the continental United States.
Through the years quilting tools have evolved. We now have so many wonderful tools to help us in our creative activity.
Rotary cutters were invented in 1979 by the Olfa Company and made fabric cutting more accurate and faster than using scissors. And even faster, is the mechanical fabric cutter such as the Accuquilt Fabric Cutters. These come in several sizes and use dies, cutting a variety of shapes through multiple layers with precision accuracy.
The first meeting of the year! In January, we were snowed out.
I’ve been part of this group of ladies – men are invited, too! – who meet once a month and make quilts to be given to clients of Mary’s Center in Washington, DC. Several times a year they host a baby shower for their clients and among other gifts, the women get to choose a quilt for their new baby.

As I mentioned last month, I’m doing two BOM’s. One is a Mystery and one I know what it will look like.
Depending on which Ground Hog you ask, we will either have 6 more weeks of Winter or an Early Spring. I vote for an Early Spring!!
Well, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted 6 more weeks of Winter and we’re currently under a Weather Alert/Winter Storm Watch and expecting 5” of snow tomorrow followed by a 2nd storm later this week. So, looking on the Bright Side – 6 more weeks of Quilting!
